UAL BLOG 9 (November 2024) Stay Safe in Hi Vis
UAL BLOG 9 (Nov):
The clocks have gone back, the afternoons are suddenly dark and it really does feel like winter’s here already.
I hope you all had a lovely half-term. Even after just a short way into the new school year, kids can present a nasty surprise by shooting up a few inches and out of their spanking new uniform! (am I the only one who remembers mum buying about six sizes too big, for me to “grow into?”).
We don’t clear the racks after September, so there’s plenty of choice in our shops and online if you need to grab any extra items. And we do offer a savings card scheme to plan ahead and avoid purse-displeasing surprises, especially timely now that all the shops have decided it’s practically Christmas already! Just ask any of our friendly staff!
It’s that time of year when your budding Jill Scott or Mo Sellar is shivering on the sports field sidelines or suddenly they’re feeling like the game is more frozen-limbs than fun. But don’t worry – we’ve got good news. We now stock approved and extra-warm layers of kit for many local schools, including sweatshirts, fleeces, hoodies and jogging bottoms, perfect for keeping concentration and enthusiasm levels up.
Good luck and well done to anyone going for it this “Movember”, a fantastic way to highlight and support a range of men’s health issues (it’s good to talk, remember, boys!) On the same theme, schools are supporting anti-bullying week 11th-15th of this month with a focus on respect and calling out unacceptable behaviour. It includes Odd Socks Day, to celebrate what makes us all unique- although I think it’ll mean mums trying to marry up half-pairs for weeks to come!
As journeys to and from school are increasingly in the dark, Road Safety Week across 18th-24th is a brilliant reminder to make sure we’re all being safe. If your children walk or cycle to school or to extra-curricular activities, nothing beats hi-vis clothing for making them stand out- peace of mind for just a few pounds (if they complain at wearing a fluorescent jacket or tabard, my tip is that strips that can be sewn onto bags- customisable and cool- can be much more readily accepted!)
Whether you’re an autumn leaves kicker or sofa snuggler, enjoy this traditional time of reflection!
