UAL BLOG 14 (April 2025) – One Door Closes; More Choice, Flexibility and Savings Beckon
UAL BLOG 14 (Apr 25):
One Door Closes; More Choice, Flexibility and Savings Beckon!
I’ve just closed the door on our Morecambe shop for the very last time. Not because the business is declining- in fact, the reverse; so why, I hear you ask? So I thought I’d use this month’s blog to share a peek into the sometimes topsy-turvy world of modern-day retail!
Just like us, businesses have to adapt to fast-changing times. To survive the pandemic we boosted our online provision; this turned out to match the changing habits of our customers. Every year, significantly more choose the speed and convenience of sourcing uniforms, leisure, sports and workwear online, making it clear restructuring was required to keep both sides of the business (High Street and online) operating at peak performance.
Many long discussions, calculations and projections later, the right choice was to close Morecambe. Twin priorities were ensuring not only did staff and customers not suffer, but that this enabled us to offer them even more.
Firstly, expanding our Lancaster shop (now “Uniform & Leisurewear Lancaster and Morecambe area”) on Common Garden Street to two floors, carrying all the stock, uniforms, sundries and choices for schools in the Lancaster, Morecambe and surrounding areas. Open six days a week for increased convenience, Morecambe store manager Mel Watson has moved to Lancaster, ensuring you’ll find the same high quality clothing, range, accessories and service you expect (and deserve!)
We’ll also keep connecting with you all on our social media. If you’ve been following our Morecambe page, please move over onto our Lancaster or Head office page or our Instagram to be kept up to date with all the latest news and special offers.
Able to commit more online, you’ll find uniform, sportswear and more for hundreds of North West schools available 24/7 from the comfort of your sofa, our new “Search by School” feature making it simpler and quicker. We’re also backing parents by offering free delivery of online uniform orders to schools during term time, and while we were at it, lowering the minimum spend for free home delivery to £50 on all orders, from customised workwear to team sports gear.
So yes, closing that Morecambe door was hard; but after 12 years, events and habits have moved on in ways we could never have predicted. Continuing to live up to its commitment to great quality, choice and service; Lancaster, Garstang, Kirkham or online: we’re here for you and yours every step of the way. Vicki xx
